DELTA Wellness Program
At NC State DELTA, you’ll find programs, services and people devoted to your health and well-being.
NC State DELTA is committed to fostering innovative and inclusive programs, services and facilities that are accessible for every member of our community. Chief among these programs is DELTA Wellness, which raises awareness about the holistic care strategy upon which DELTA wellness initiatives are based.
- NC State’s six elements of wellness are purpose, physical, financial, emotional, social and community.
Launched in 2018 in tandem with the university-wide Wolfpack Wellness initiative, DELTA Wolfpack Wellness programs are coordinated by DELTA Human Resources Specialist Cortney Hagans, with additional support from the HR team. Hagans was hired in 2021 in part to manage DELTA wellness, which emphasizes topics including health, diversity and culture, emotional and mental health and nutrition.
While working at a previous workplace, Hagans suffered debilitating postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. Offered no support or resources through her employer, she despaired. “It felt like no one cared about what I was going through with my mental health,” she said. “At that moment in time, I knew it was very important to champion for others who were silently suffering.”
Hagans’ experience was transformative, bringing her to the DELTA role with a vision for empowering colleagues through workplace wellness. “The overall mission for the Wolfpack Wellness Initiative within DELTA and NCSCaLE is to educate, support and empower,” she said. “I enjoy the planning, research and collaboration that allows me to share my knowledge and reach the whole team in different ways and ensure that there is something for everyone.”
Hagans especially enjoys the opportunity to be creative and have a little fun in her role. She develops a quarterly theme for the wellness board in suite 230 of the CTI building, showcasing wellness information and engagement opportunities while adding some color to the space.
“My hope is that the board will increase workplace interactions and expose employees to what’s happening in wellness,” she said. “DELTA does a great job of fostering a culture of community, purpose and inclusion.”
A Culture of Wellness
Fostering belonging is a DELTA priority. As an organization, DELTA strives to develop and promote opportunities for the community that empower individuals to take charge of their well-being while feeling connected to the Wolfpack.
“Understanding that employees are driven by different experiences, it is a priority to plan and share wellness initiatives that reflect the diversity of our teams,” Hagans explained. “For us, this means celebrating differences by offering a safe space for employees to open up and feel included.”
Employees are encouraged to regularly check the NC State Wellness Calendar and the Wolfpack Wellness Resources catalog to find opportunities to engage with members of our campus community, and to join the University HR Wellness email group.

Wellness Initiatives
NC State is delivering on its commitment to create a culture of wellness for the entire campus community. Earlier this year, the university received gold-level recognition from the American Heart Association for its employee health and well-being initiatives.

Well Wolfpack Certified organizations are distinguished by their commitment to fostering a culture of wellness in the workplace in the areas of activity, nutrition, emotional wellness and culture of wellness. Both DELTA and NCSCaLE were recognized once again in 2024 as Gold level organizations, scoring over 90% on the certifications scale for integrating wellness into the organizational culture. Recognition for this certification is awarded at the annual Wolfpack Wellness Awards.
“Reaching Gold Level Certification is a huge deal and is a goal we set for DELTA each year,” said Hagans. “This certification says a lot about DELTA’s commitment to the well-being of our staff and how important it is to recognize the ways that wellness is infused into the fabric of our organization and culture.”
Wellness Champions are NC State staff and faculty who advocate and help facilitate an innovative culture and environment of wellness in their college, unit or department. The champions organize and promote activities centered around each of the elements of wellness, such as walking challenges and workshops on good financial habits.
Currently, more than 150 NC State employees participate in the program, including several from DELTA and NCSCaLE: Joyce Barron, Cortney Hagans, Angela Hallman, Carrie Helms, Jenn Scoggins, Chris Starbird and Tamara Watts.
The DELTA Wellness Room is a space for parents in the workplace who need a space to express milk. In accordance with federal law, a private space in CTI has been established for this purpose, located in suite 220 next to the fax/copier room. This room provides electrical outlets, a comfortable chair with an attached swiveling table, sink and a refrigerator for nursing parents and can be reserved by any NC State staff, faculty or students.
When not in use by lactating parents, who have priority in the space, the DELTA wellness room can also be used to observe prayer or as a quiet space for resting during short work breaks.
The Wolfpack Wellness Badge program is open to any member of the NC State community who wishes to complete the badge requirements. The program gives members of the NC State community opportunities to experience wellness-promoting activities both on and off campus, and earning the badge demonstrates a commitment to personal health and wellness.
The WolfPerks program is designed to save NC State University faculty and staff money on products and services both locally and nationally.
Finally, FASAP (Faculty and Staff Assistance Program) is a university-sponsored program that provides 24/7 support, resources and information for personal and work-life issues.
