Jamf Pro Migration Instructions

NC State is migrating all Apple devices from our current management system to a new one.

What to Expect

First, you’ll receive a notification dialog similar to this one, informing you that enrollment in a new device management service is mandatory.

The notification will provide a deadline date and time for completing the migration. To minimize any disruption to your workflow, we strongly recommend that you complete the migration as soon as you receive the notification.

Step-by-Step Migration Instructions

Step 1: Receive the Enrollment Notification

A notification will appear in the upper-right corner of your screen from System Settings. It will read “Enrollment Required” and inform you that your organization requires your Mac to enroll in a different device management service, along with a deadline to complete the process.

The enrollment notification appears in the macOS notification center.

Step 2: Click “View” on the Notification

Hover over or expand the notification to reveal the “View” button on the right side. Click “View” to proceed. This will open System Settings to the enrollment screen.

Expand the notification and click the “View” button.

Step 3: Review the Enrollment Details in System Settings

System Settings will open and display the “Enrollment Required” pane. You will see details about the enrollment requirement and the deadline. Review the information, then click “Start Enrollment” to begin the migration process.

Note: The message indicates that once you start enrollment (or when the deadline arrives), you will lose access to the system until enrollment is complete. This typically only takes a few minutes.

System Settings displays the enrollment requirement and “Start Enrollment” button.

Step 4: Confirm Enrollment on the Device Management Screen

A Device Management dialog will appear confirming that your organization is requiring enrollment into a different device management service. You will see that the Mac is owned by North Carolina State University. Click “Enroll” to proceed. You may click “Not now” to defer, but enrollment must be completed before the stated deadline.

The Device Management screen confirms NC State University ownership.

Step 5: Authenticate with Your Mac Password

An “Enrollment Authentication” dialog will appear. This confirms that your device will be unenrolled from the current management service and enrolled in the new one. Enter your Mac login password (the password you use to unlock your Mac) and click “Continue.”

Enter your Mac login password to authorize the enrollment change.

Step 6: Wait for Unenrollment from the Current Service

After authenticating, the system will begin unenrolling your Mac from the current device management service. You will see a progress indicator with the message “Unenrolling from current service.” Do not shut down, restart, or close the lid of your Mac during this process.

The system unenrolls from the previous management server.

Step 7: Enrollment Complete

Once the process finishes, you will see a green checkmark with the message “Enrollment complete.” Click “Quit” to close the Device Management dialog and return to your desktop. Your Mac is now enrolled in the new Jamf Pro instance.

Enrollment is complete — click “Quit” to return to your desktop.

Verifying the Migration (Optional)

If you would like to confirm that your Mac has been successfully migrated, you can verify through the following method.

Open System Settings → General → Device Management. Click on the management profile to view its details. Confirm that the Server URL shows https://ncsu.jamfcloud.com.

System Settings confirms the new MDM server URL: ncsu.jamfcloud.com

Troubleshooting

I missed the notification. How do I start the migration?

Open System Settings. If enrollment is required, you will see an “Enrollment Required” item at the top of the sidebar with a badge. Click on it to begin the process from Step 3.

I accidentally clicked “Not now.”

That’s fine — the notification will reappear. As the deadline approaches, reminders will become more frequent (daily, then hourly in the final 24 hours). You can also start the process manually through System Settings at any time.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

If the enrollment deadline passes without action, macOS will present a non-dismissible full-screen prompt requiring you to complete the enrollment before you can continue using your Mac.
